I thought I would share a little bit about my process today. When painting forest scenes, branches, pine needles etc., I like to use a #1 round brush and a liner brush. The round brush is great for creating varying sizes in the branches and I really like to use the liner brush for the spindly pine needles. They also work great when painting fur or whiskers. Double Portrait
This is the last custom work that I created in 2017 for my best client and friend! 😉 Framed and ready for pickup!
This was such a great year for me, creatively. I illustrated my first children’s book, attended my first SCBWI conference, learned about instagram and twitter, had my first solo show in years, gained gallery representation and grew tremendously as an artist. Thank you for all who have supported me and continue to follow my journey! Here’s to an even better 2018.

Littles In the Snow
We actually had a good amount of snow in Alabama last weekend. I’ve never seen a snowy forest but I would like to imagine that it looks something like this. Here is another post for #illo_advent. Peace, love and joy everyone.

‘Tis the Season
Wishing you a very happy holiday season filled with peace, love and joy!
I created this illustration just in time for Day 5 of #illo_advent. If you are not familiar with the illustration initiative, it was created by Penny Neville Lee and you can find more information through her twitter feed. https://twitter.com/PennyNevilleLee What a great idea!

Blue Eyes
I finished this commissioned portrait today! I always hate signing the work. It makes me so nervous, even though I use the tiniest brush possible! Seriously, I think it has 3 hairs.
Check out my web site if you have a minute. I updated the design and I think its a little more user friendly. Please let me know what you think.

Commissions and Coffee
I’m working hard this holiday season to fulfill several commission requests and thinking about how thankful I am for all of your support. This has been such an exciting year. Thank you for following my artistic journey and/or for your patronage!
I hope that you have a holiday season filled with peace, love and joy. However, if you do get overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of the season, be sure to do as Sheldon Cooper would and pour yourself a warm beverage. I like a cup of coffee 😉
Water Ways Art Exhibit
My Loggerhead Sea Turtle will be included in the 2017 Water|Ways H2Outstanding Art Exhibit at the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center now through January 5 (closing reception).
“Water affects our lives, climate, agriculture, jobs, recreational time, culture, and has a direct impact on our art. Local artists of all ages will have the opportunity to enter a contest and showcase their work alongside the traveling Smithsonian Exhibit, Water/Ways.”
I feel so fortunate to be included in this show and have my work on display alongside work from the Smithsonian! The work of 165 artists will be on display within Delta Hall at 5 Rivers. They are open from 8am – 5pm seven days a week and admission is free.
See the links for directions to the facility and more information on the exhibit.

New Logo
I picked up an IPAD Pro for my birthday and downloaded Procreate. Since then, I have been trying to figure out exactly how I want to use the app and when. Over the past two weeks I have been tinkering with the idea of a “logo” design to include on the back of prints and cards, and possibly t-shirts in the future. What do you think?

Digital Drawing with Procreate
I have been playing around with Procreate and my Apple Pencil this morning, while I work on coming up with some new drawings for t-shirts. More information to come!

Pet Portraits
I just love the way that this pet portrait commission turned out. It is an illustration of this beautiful pup and his favorite place to roam among wildflowers.

Drawing FUNdamentals
I have not posted many videos on my site, but here it goes! Tonight we discussed vine and compressed charcoal and how to use chiaroscuro to create a light source and make something look 3D in a drawing. I set up an O’Keefish (that’s a word right?) still life. My students turned out some AWESOME drawings. We also had fun flashing back to an 80’s radio mix station.
